Thanks Mnyb for your kind comments. And for reading in full my original
post.

I live in a single room apartment (I refer to it as a tiny small loft)
located at the southernmost city in the world. Power outages are not
the rule, but not unheard of. Nevertheless, the rule is ISP
unreliability.

I still can afford the difference in money between a Ethernet switch
and a wireless router so as to get the Touch running as it should.
Speaking of getting the Touch to work, I had to downgrade my latest
firmware update as the Tiny SOB was rendered useless. Rolled it back to
7.5.something to get a breather. I just cannot wait until I have a
dedicated computer aiding this flawed appliance and its always flawed
software updates.

In 3 weeks or so I'll get the nettop and will try the two solutions
that made it to enticed me and post the results. By the way, once I set
this up, I'm considering to disconnect it from the internet and keep the
7.5 version running until next year. By then, I'll check if there are
posts referring to the latest version as better than 7.5. This two
months I've been wasting time and money on this and I'm looking forward
to solve this for good!

Thanks to ALL those who contributed and please forgive my English.
