Well, actually I didn't think about any particular platform at all, but
indeed, if the server is running on Windows, you should be fine with WMA
in any case and probably won't have to do anything to play them with
iPeng or SqueezePad, too, the server and Windows will take care of that.

Sorry if I sounded confusing, but that's what I wanted to say. 

The other statement were more of a general nature. For example, you
can't just upload your wma files on the iPad to play them from there and
yes, a Mac as a server might cause problems (I don't know. While I do
use a Mac myself it's neither my server nor do I have many wma files).

And yes, you are absolutely correct in assuming that all of this only
matters when using your iPad as a player, not to remotely control the
Squeezebox.
