If you have flac files its important to have flac set to native or else
the server transcodes to WAV .
This is the default setting btw .

For WAV or aiff files the choices are a bit different , the default is
to transcode , reason being that it saves bandwith as many uses wifi .
Remember flac is lossles but has lower bitrate than PCM but sound
quality is the same.
However not all servers can do this transcoding so here is a case where
not transcoding makes sense .

In most cases for most people the default settings in file types makes
most sense , the settings are really there for corner cases with OS and
hardware combinations that will not do something , or some custom choice
of transcoding mechanism with some plugins .
