This would be good on the Wiki. There were quite a few Phoenixes used for
packet repeaters at one time. They come up every now and again for
reasonable pricing ($5 and $3 for mine at a flea market).

We should swap notes after the holidays. I was getting reasonable
performance with my SX and OT2 in my vehicle. Your connection sounds similar
to mine.

Happy holidays!

There are two ways to do it....The easy way and of course the way I did it:)

I will do a write up on January.

But as a summary I added a de-emphasis network so that I could use voice
alert with the original volume, speaker, and PL decoder. In other words
leave the factory audio path intact. After all of the PL filtering, but
before the monitor switch I tapped into the audio, added an amplified
de-emphasis network, the output of which is the input of the version .9
T2-135.

I will perform decoding analysis with the write up.

Hi Mark,

I would like to hear more about the Phoenix install. I used a Phoenix until
recently with my OT2. I will be running a FT1500 again mobile. The Phoenix
is moving to a digi site (with the KPC3+).

Thanks!

Best regards,
Fred

And put the original in another radio that has a de-emphasis network (Fits
easily in a GE Phoenix!)

Thanks for the comments. I have a local event coming up at the end of
February for which I really wanted to have an effective fill-in digi
available. I used my existing board last year for the same event and it was
OK but certainly less than ideal.

Based on what I've heard here and in past posts as well, I've ordered a new
board and will keep the original one as a spare. I had actually started
considering acquiring a KPC-3 for use with another radio, but this
arrangement is so compact that it's hard to beat (providing it works
satisfactorily - and it sounds as if the new board will be noticeably
better).

like to get updated on the status of any fixes. I think there was talk of
some hardware changes to better shape the audio, but I don't know where that
stands now.

running my DR-135 system next to my other home system using a Yaesu FT-1500M
and AGWPE and the home system is decoding many more transmissions than the
Alinco. I'm using two identical antennas at the same height with just about
the same transmission line lengths and quality. The Alinco gets most of the
strong signals, but the weaker ones are not handled well. The radio hears
them (the "meter" moves) but the board does not decode them.
