It can run Libreboot but it is a formidable installation process: https://libreboot.org/docs/hcl/t500.html. If you don't install Libreboot it is just a generic laptop with reasonable build quality. It probably comes with Intel wireless though which as far as I know cannot be replaced unless Coreboot or Libreboot are installed due to a component whitelist in the proprietary BIOS. I would only get it if you intend to install Libreboot or Coreboot, other than that you might as well just go to your local computer store. You might want to get a Thinkpad X60 or T60 for buttons as they can be flashed in software, if Libreboot is what you want.
