If I understand what you are saying I agree with you.  The character of God does not change.  But what about the Old Testament law to execute homosexuals?  What about the Old Testament law to kill your child if he curses you?  Should we be practicing these laws today?

Dear Glenn,

Some people seem to think that that God of the "Old Testament" is really mean, and impossible to follow.  But the God of the New Testament is real easy to get along with and took away our sins by doing away with His laws.  And He somehow fulfilled them, not by obedience, but by doing away with His laws.

God is not scatter-brained.  God has continuity.  I believe that they are the same God fulfilling an overall plan of reconciliation, salvation from our sin.   Sin has definition; and the giving of commandments is an act of agape love by God.  God's goal is to write His laws upon our hearts, not just on stone, because we can technically fulfill the commandments outwardly while our hearts are filled with hate.

"For God (of the "Old Testament") so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (for the "New Testament"), that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."  (John 3:16-21)

Dear Glenn,

Thanks for softening your tone a little.

"I DON'T FOLLOW THE OLD TESTAMENT FOR MY SALVATION."

What is salvation of?
"There is neither Jew or Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male or female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus".  Gal. 3:28.

What do you need to be saved from?
"And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire." Jude 23

Love,

Marlin
