DavidM: is there some Mormon passage of Scripture that makes your point about this? I would be very interested in reading it. Please provide for us a reference.

"...if Adam had not transgressed.... they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin....Adam fell that men might be;" (BM, 2 Nephi 2:22-23).

"Were it not for OUR transgression we never should have had seed, and never should have known good and evil, and the joy of our redemption, and the eternal life which God giveth unto all the obedient" (PGP, Moses 5:11).
(OUR Transgression? Is this Original Sin in the PGP?)
Under the heading:
"'TRANSGRESSION' NOT 'SIN' OF ADAM," Mormon apostle and
prophet Joseph Fielding Smith, Jr. wrote, "the fall of man came as a blessing in disguise, ...I never speak of the part Eve took in this fall as a sin, nor do I accuse Adam of a sin" (Doctrines of Salvation, (DS), vol. 1, p. 114). Again, "This was a transgression of the law, but not a sin in the strict sense, for it was something that Adam and Eve had to do!" "The 'fall' of Adam and Eve was not a sin but an essential act upon which mortality depends" (Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, vol. 5, p. 15).

"We can hardly look upon anything resulting in such benefits as being a sin, in the sense in which we consider sin" (Smith, DS, vol. 1, p. 115).

"After they had thus complied with whatever the law was that brought mortality into being,..." and "He [Adam] chose the Lord's way;" NWAF NcConkie pp. 86, 91

"Properly understood, it becomes apparent that the fall of Adam is one of the greatest blessings ever given of God to mankind" McConkie, NWAF, p. 87).

DaveH, is there some Mormon passage of Scripture that makes your point
about this? I would be very interested in reading it. Please provide
for us a reference.

I pointed out a passage before to you that referred to Adam's
transgression as sin. Maybe you missed it. I will discuss this in a
little more detail this time. Consider the following passage which
refers to it as sin several times:

Wherefore, as by one man SIN entered into the world, and DEATH BY SIN;
and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until
the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no
law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that
had not SINNED AFTER THE SIMILITUDE OF ADAM'S TRANSGRESSION, who is the
figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the
free gift. For if THROUGH THE OFFENCE OF ONE MANY BE DEAD, much more the
grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ,
hath abounded unto many. And not as it was BY ONE THAT SINNED, so is the
gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is
of many offences unto justification. (Romans 5:12-16 KJV)

You have previously agreed that transgression and sin often is used
interchangeably, but you claimed that such was not the case with Adam's
transgression. In the above passage, it seems to me very clear that
"sin" and "transgression" and "offense" are used interchangeably about
Adam's sin. Furthermore, it specifically calls Adam's transgression
sin, when it says, "BY ONE THAT SINNED." Substitute the antecedent of
"ONE" and this passage would read, "BY ADAM THAT SINNED." The passage
also calls Adam's transgression sin by saying, "SINNED AFTER THE
SIMILITUDE OF ADAM'S TRANSGRESSION." Also compare the phrase, "through
the offence of one many be dead" with the earlier phrase, "DEATH BY
SIN." There you will see that "the offence" (Adam's transgression) is
used interchangeably with the word "sin" in "DEATH BY SIN." Comments?

Peace be with you.
