Jonathan:  I would suggest that defining Logos as Torah would be incorrect.

jt: Why? The Word of God is the Word of God, all is given by inspiration of God (by the Holy Spirit) and no word of prophecy is for private interpretation. (2 Peter 1:20,21)

The closest Hebrew equivalent to logos would be dabhar.  I do not believe that dabhar refers to the Torah (law).

jt: Sure it does - It's the word used in Strongs Concordance for the Law of Moses #1697 taken from #1696
We could not rephrase John 1.1 as “In the beginning was Torah, and Torah was with God and Torah was God.”

jt: Why would we want to when scripture clearly says "Word" but as Jeff and Slade both claim Jesus is the Word of God and Torah is The Word of God, so what's the problem?

The reason this is so is because in John 1.1 logos is referring to a Person.

jt: Yes, and that Person is God the Word (Logos) Strongs #3056 or under the New Covenant Rhema or "revealed Word" Strongs #4487

We are not talking about something that points towards God (law) but rather God Himself.

jt: God and His Word are one and have always been one and the same, in fact He exalts His Word above all of His Name according to Psalm 138:2

There has only been one person who ever obeyed the Torah of God: Jesus Christ.

jt: False...There is the rich young ruler who said (referring to the Commandments) "all these have I kept from my youth up" and Jesus did not confront him and call him a liar. (Luke 18:21)

Christ did not fulfill something He already was.

jt: Then according to you he failed in his mission because he says in Matthew 5:17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets, I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law until all is fulfilled"

Secondly, Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of the Father.

jt: He is also the "Eternal Word of God" He said in John 14:24 "The Word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me and we see a glimpse of the risen Christ in Revelation 19:13 "He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood and his name was called "The Word of God"

The Torah (law) is not eternal.

jt: Who says God's Law is not eternal? "Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flower fades, but the Word of our God stands forever" (Isaiah 40:8)  Does "forever" mean something other than "eternal?"

Here we may need to discuss exactly what you are referring to when using the word Torah.

jt: Torah is the first five books of the Bible, the writings of Moses. Don't the Nicene Fathers teach that?

The word of the Lord will last forever.  The law of the Old Testament will/has not.

jt: They are one and the same. The Word of God is the Word of God inspired by the Holy Spirit who is also a member of the Godhead.  What authority do you have to make these pronouncements?  God's Law hasn't gone anywhere. It stands in judgment against transgressors every day.  Sickness is a curse of the Law.
