Terry, there are many “church houses” that welcome sodomites with open arms, especially in places like New Orleans.  They should be the first to be judged. 1 Peter 4:17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?  God is merciful and gives warnings like labor pains.  The wise see the obvious message and repent.  The foolish mock.  Izzy

II Peter 3:1This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. 4They will say, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation." 5For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, 6and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. 7But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.  8But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodieswill be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.11Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

I am inclined to agree with you, but verse six seems to strongly imply that when there is calamity in a city, it is God's doing.  Is that so, or not?  I have no idea why God would destroy a church house and save a gay bar, and do not know if He has totally destroyed every city that He punished.  I am looking for some consistancy here and am having a hard time finding it.  I hate it when there is something I don't know.  There were only six things I did not know, now there are seven.  Makes me wonder if there could even possibly be eight!

Amos 3 is a discussion (of sorts) that God is having with Israel  (verse 1).    Hebrews 12 is a discussion God is providentially having with His disciples and the discipline mentioned there is that which is received by the disciples.   When God sent Jonah to Nineveh, the threat was to wipe out the entire city.......not a portion of the city.  Where do we find, in scripture, God judging a city by condemning those who live on 4th street, but not 5th , 6th and 7th street?   I mean, when God judged, He took men, women and children.  That is not happening in N.O.    Why is this not significant to this discussion?

I heard a message delivered by one of the pastors in N.O. the other day.   His message?   God is sending the church a wake-up call!!!!   I agree.    If this were a judgment against N.O.  --   surely the French Quarter would have been included in the devastation.    It clearly was not.

No?

What happend to Sodom way back when?   There wasn't anyone left, Kevin.   No one.   The place was consumed.    THAT is the judgment of God upon a city.   The discipline that occurred in NO was for those who receive discipline   -------------   it was not a judgment of God upon the pagans.

In light of this opinion, could you tell us the answer to the question posed in Amos 3:6?
I would really like to understand your thinking.
