In general I agree with Jason; the current layout is fine and consistency 
in this case is paramount if you want to shorten the learning curve
required to use a Maven project.

However, I'm in the same boat as Age.  Having the big Jakarta logo (while 
very pretty :-) in the banner isn't going to work in the long run; CLI4J 
isn't a Jakarta project.  Also, I don't want to keep a locally modified 
site.vsl (there's a maintenance nightmare waiting to happen).

Would a patch that allows the left banner logo to be modifed/replaced, 
much like the subproject (right banner) logo is currently be acceptable to 
all?
