Yep, maven:generate-install will happen one of these days. It's a definite need - generating an install jar, installshield or install-anywhere script.

And don't forget the point about install/uninstall.
Those are useful for non-library applications. Examples would be
JMeter, JAMES, Phoenix, Tomcat, ANT, etc.
