Latinos tend to be Catholic and thus against abortion. They supported the right wing in opposing gay marriage. Labor unions tended to look at them as the enemy so they were not allied with labor. Republicans have not able, traditionally, to tap into what should be natural allies, largely because of their stance on immigration and amnesty.
