For DDR2 multi bank configurations, you need to ensure 
lower error rate and lower power consumption.

This requires and operations at a lower voltage and
an optimum frequency would be core speed/2.

With compute intensive tasks running, you will be able to 
achieve better stability across both Linux and WinXP installations.

My general impression with ASUS boards is that
gamers tend to get away with slight overclocking.

In that case you need to take care of heat and power consumption.
Hence the initial suggestion to get a good SMPS.
