Quick summary for those who haven't heard of this - warning, this technique is much easier to understand visually. There's probably something on line - I think I had something up once, but I'm too lazy to look. 1. Place all of the cards which are to be threaded identically in one large pack 2. take a spool of the first colour and thread it straight through the first hole 3. take the remaining 3 spools and repeat through the other three holes. 4. tie a knot of the four threads - the cards should be free to slide. 5. attach the knot to something that won't move (eg an upside down coffee table or a warping board - I usually use a second knot so it won't slide) 6. wrap the threads around the coffee table legs (or whatever - doesn't matter as long as it is the length you want) and drop off the last card for each loop around . 7. after the last card is dropped off, complete the loop 8. get a stitch holder (looks like a giant safety pin) or something to hold the cards together in a nice neat pack 9. holding the threads tie (a friend helps) cut all the threads at the starting point and tie a knot in the ends 10. attach it to your loom or belt and start weaving
If you have a pattern that isn't warped the same, I still use the quick warp method on the ones that are the same and then rearrange the cards when I place it on my loom. If you warp it around the same piece of furniture, the lengths will be pretty close. Any unevenness in the tension will be incorporated once you start weaving, but since this makes for messier starts, I usually try to even out the tension by hand before I start. I have a hand out with pictures somewhere if you email me off list rob/rufus [email protected]
