As Michael said it's really personal. When I was helping my wife with her second piece of weaving, my diamonds were about 20 percent larger because she was beating so much heavier than I was - and I beat heavy to begin with (my beater is a scrap piece of steel).
To get a rough guide, weave a short section in double face and calculate your length for each two quarter turns. Then knowing the length you have to work with, you can determine how many pattern wefts you have to play with and can adapt the pattern accordingly. or if its going to be close, just beat little heavier than normal (or switch to a heavier beater, which can be easier when trying to maintain consistency) Remember that your compression will change depending on the weaving technique, and the type and size of the fibre used. robert
