Have you ever noticed how often the little word "but" negates the previous clause? I don't mean to be cruel, but... I knew that program hadn't been completely tested, but... I don't want to hurt your feelings, but... It is frequently used to separate an insincere mollification clause from the true intent of the rest of the sentence.

I know this thread is not about U2 Tech, is off-topic, and properly should be moved to u2-community, but I want to let it run for a while longer so the new list hosts can have the benefit of the group's comments without the new moderators having to decide whether or not to End Thread it.

And I don't want the poster of the message to which this is in response to think that I am using his linguistic slip to tease everybody, but I am. ;-)
