I didn’t think the lite would be available after the full launch of the real product. No advantages there though as it doesn’t sport any of the magic other than AC, which isn’t magic at all.
You can’t sit here and deny the fact that the Nano Beams had issues initially. I had to pull all our initially installed ones from the field due to some serious AP wide degradations that didn’t get resolved till much later. We have them rolled out now in minimal fashion on newer firmware and some beta 5.6 Let’s see, how many other products can I list that had been rushed to market…. *From:* ubnt_users-boun...@wispa.org [mailto:ubnt_users-boun...@wispa.org] *On Behalf Of *Ben Moore *Sent:* Thursday, January 8, 2015 11:49 AM *To:* Ubiquiti Users Group *Subject:* Re: [Ubnt_users] Rocket5ac PTMP w/AirPrism availability With the NanoBeam what is half baked? We have heard great response from the product worldwide (in each market). Software or hardware issues? What were you beta testing? If you want the one rocket, you can always use the lite...This option is there. However, you won't have the benefits of airPrism. With airPrism you really need to break out PTP and PTMP to get best performance (and with AC). On Thu, Jan 8, 2015 at 1:44 PM, Chris Ruschmann <ch...@scsalaska.net> wrote: I did watch the webinar. Not sure how I feel about it yet and whether It’s enough to justify upgrading existing stuff. Still deciding even if I want to move forward with it after the Nano Beam debacle that we wasted a lot of time and money beta testing a fully released non half assed product. That said, I would be more inclined to buy a product that supported the full breadth of what 5Ghz has to offer. I rather enjoyed one rocket to rule the all as it was easier to keep stock this way for replacements. Now I have to keep track of multiple items and SKU’s. *From:* ubnt_users-boun...@wispa.org [mailto:ubnt_users-boun...@wispa.org] *On Behalf Of *Ben Moore *Sent:* Thursday, January 8, 2015 11:21 AM *To:* Ubiquiti Users Group *Subject:* Re: [Ubnt_users] Rocket5ac PTMP w/AirPrism availability We actually do call out what each are capable of on the data sheet. The days are not gone of one device doing everything (this still applies with the majority of the products). However, we have optimized a PTP product and a PTMP product. Many have asked for this and I think it will be a welcome change. We are not charging more for this. we are just getting the most out of PTP and most out of PTMP. Yes, it will have DFS. I would expect in Q1. The lites are PTP and PTMP. The products are fully capable. If you are referring to DFS, we release now because many want to use them now in the bands they are available in USA and also the rest of the world can use bands available. You may want to look at all of the enhancements/SW features discussed in our webinar yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQTg-XNlF4g This is not half baked. Will it have DFS? Probably not. So none of the products are usable for me. I have PTP Lites sitting on the shelf since release cause I can’t use them. Why not wait to launch a fully capable product instead of half assed one. *From:* ubnt_users-boun...@wispa.org [mailto:ubnt_users-boun...@wispa.org] *On Behalf Of *Ben Moore *Sent:* Thursday, January 8, 2015 10:32 AM *To:* Ubiquiti Users Group *Subject:* Re: [Ubnt_users] Rocket5ac PTMP w/AirPrism availability I assume you are talking about PTP (with airPrism) and not the lite version right? The Lite version can do PTP and PTMP. So, in summary, there are hardware differences for PTP and PTMP with airPrism that maximize performance for PTP and PTMP. There are also software enhancements for PTP only version (TDMA framing, Long distance mode, etc...).
