The /usr/share/backgrounds directory currently takes up 4.9 MB and there are 5 "extra" wallpapers in there called space-01 through space-05.jpg.
Though small they scale well and take up very little space on the CD.

I'm sure we'll do more optimization in Edgy but since we are in the
exploration phase I thought I'd point out that Michiel's beautiful
design(above) stretches well and takes up 1/10 the space of the current
default paper.

If Edgy were to ship with optimized designs such this and the
space0x.jpg images, users theoretically could have 25 wallpapers to
choose from and we would still be able to give 2.5 MB back to the
developers! This is obviously a best case scenario but I think you get
the idea...

Oh, it does scale well? That's nice. I didn't even upload it at that size with that in mind, since the original is a whopping 2197x1374 px (16:10). It's indeed kind of nice if we could keep wallpapers small like that. These abstract-type wallpapers can usually easily be upscaled, but that won't be the case if we use those Fyre textures.

I do plan on making a bunch of these, and I assume that others will, too, so we can always have one high-resolution default wallpaper and some smaller ones besides that, if it really takes up that little space. That is kind of nice.
