The case of the original reporter of this bug has been confirmed to be invalid. If you are experiencing a similar issue, please file your own bug report and include the output of parted -l, and debconf-show grub- pc. Bear in mind the following, that will indicate that you also have a misconfiguration, and not a valid bug:
1) If grub-pc/install_devices is empty, or only has one drive but you have multiple drives installed, then you need to run dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc and make sure you select all of your drives, as this error happens when you have a broken grub installed on one drive, and that is the drive your bios is booting, even if you have a good install on another drive 2) If you have used grub-repair in the past, that runs grub-install for you but does not update grub-pc/install_devices, so errors such as this will happen when grub is upgraded, since the system does not know it needs to run grub-install again to update your boot drive after upgrading the grub files in /boot/grub. ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1289977 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 Update breaks grub, resulting in "error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1289977/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
