An alternative approach could be to consider running linux *on* the ipod. I was surprised and heartened two weeks ago when I asked in my local (windows based) PC shop if they needed any more of my FOSS/ubuntu leaflets. They could take some more yes. I asked the guy if he used it - open source or linux? He said - 'oh, yes, on my ipod!'
