Extensible Firmware Interface (was developed by Intel, now it's UEFI and it's supposed to be "more open"... but I think most of the time people uses EFI term instead of UEFI). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface It's a replacement for the BIOS.
