I was surprised to experience a freeze while running Android_x86 4.4-rc3
on my 2 in 1 laptop. After digging a bit - I found that the android_x86
runs on a custom linux-4.0.8. There wasn't a cstate argument in the
command line. Too soon to know if it will help, but I no longer get the
"unfortunately," my app "has stopped running" warning when I try to
launch an app with wifi off.

As ladiko points out, it is curious that AMD machines seem to be exempt
from these freezes. I have a dual boot AMD laptop mainly running Mint
(linux 3.16.0-38-generic) for about 6 months. The only problems I've
had with it were related to the old hard drive starting to fail. The
kernel might be too old to freeze, though.
