I tried what deleting ~/.config/monitors.xml on startup, but it seems to
be re-created when you plug/unplug the second monitor.

What works for me is removing the file on startup, but also created a
cron job that runs every 2 minutes and deletes this too.

So when I unplug the screen, before I plug it back, the file will
already be gone and my session won't crash.
