I know people with two of the same bodies, and I don't think it's at all
unusual for a professional.  I also process raw files from other
people's cameras some times.

I'm not claiming that this is likely important, just that in theory one
might have individual profiles.  After all we profile our monitors
instead of using a profile from the manufacturer for the type.  But the
hard part is even getting one good profile - something I have yet to do.

But I'm not asking others to write code to do this - just to avoid
making it harder.

I don't see why that would be necessary (although I can see why it would
be nice).  In general someone might have several profiles for an
individual body, or for a body type.  So there will have to be some way
to have a mapping from

(type, serial/NULL) => profile

that is external to the profiles.

Good point, so perhaps white balance should be taken into account.
