(Assuming that's the one you have now)

Just back up your menu.lst file before you start tinkering, and after you
are finished, restore it, and add an appropriate entry for windows.

Subject: Re: [UM-LINUX] Restoring GRUB

gparted doesnt detect my video driver so it can't run X, so i use
SystemRescueCD which is great, i use xvesa instead of normal x but it can
run either and it comes with gparted and a whole lot of other tools.
what i didn't understand is how to choose which OS's GRUB/menu.lst will go
into the MBR. meaning i want ubuntu's to have the MBR not debian. how do i
choose that (theyre /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2 respectively)

Thanks everyone,

Brian

Also, SuSE has the ability to restore GRUB with a pretty simple UI. The
procedure is kind of obscure - you need to use the install disk to boot
your SuSE partition, then use the "control panel" (YaST) to reinstall
the bootloader (it does LILO too).

But, I agree, reinstalling your whole OS is a bit excessive.
