I tried several options having success only when using -o default (which
corrresponds to PulseAudio in my case) and when starting manually the
squeezelite process. I am using bluetooth speakers and apparently the
squeezelite startup daemon did start before the bluetooth transmission
was setup. So a particular case that can explain why it did not work in
my case

Looking on the internet I finally found a solution that works well for
me. Configuring a shortcut in ~/.config/autostart
(http://askubuntu.com/questions/159008/how-to-add-startup-applications-in-lubuntu)

Thanks anyhow for your help, I learnt a lot :-)
