If it helps anyone diagnose this, I also get a pop when starting up (v1.19 on an old Model B) but I have a USB audio dongle. It's not a problem for me because I rarely restart the player. I have not noticed it on my other player which is a newer Model B with a HiFiBerry DAC, but again, it's nearly always on.
