So a stand-alone player needs only to run Squeezelite. LMS can run on another device on your network, such as your laptop. And in this scenario, there's no need for the music files to be located on the Raspberry Pi - they simply need to be on a device that LMS on your laptop can see. Such a setup will only work when the RPi is connected to your home network - you won't be able to take this device outside your house, as you could with an iPod, because it won't be able to see LMS. That's what I was referring to as 'the latter', but I'm still not convinced that that's what you're aiming for. If you want a device that works outside your home network it'll need to run LMS on the RPi, and then the music files will indeed need to be stored on a device that's plugged into the RPi. Agreed - a very detailed response, above and beyond..... Note that one of the early steps is to install LMS, so this assumes that you want to create a stand-alone server+player, i.e. a device that can operate independently of your home network. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106833 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
