Will, I'm not attacking you, or trying to censor you. What I don't like
is your attacking a company when you have no factual basis for your
attacks.
There is no reason that ATI should support OS X on legacy Macs. Apple
doesn't (and probably pressures vendors not to as well, but that's just
supposition), and it would not be a very profitable market.
Running around posting that ATI is making defective cards, or screwing
up with the drivers is simply foolish. The cards work as advertised, and
work well in supported configurations. That would be, as has been on
ATI's spec sheet from the beginning, PCI Macs running 8.6 and 9.x. The
only machines that they have ever officially stated that they support OS
X on are Blue & Whites and later.
Now, as it happens, I also follow the xlr8 forums and read the posts
from the ATI rep ("Armand", IIRC) who was posting there. The only time I
saw any posts about ATI supporting OS X on legacy Macs, it was in a
speculative manner, with some helpful suggestions for those who were
trying - that's where I picked up the idea to copy the ATI ROM Xtender
to the OSX extensions folder.
Not once did I see a post promising that ATI was working on drivers for
older Macs running OS X.
So ATI has delivered the cards. They work in the machines that are
supported. Where, then, did ATI screw up, or produce a defective card?
And I don't want your opinions, I want facts. I don't care how upset you
are personally that their card doesn't function as you think it should,
or your opinion on how ATI should be running their company.
And if you can not justify your opinions, then please stop slagging ATI.
Talk about them all you want, but just cease the slander about defective
cards and screwed-up drivers. That's all I want.
