This is true. It's a "for sure" issue with some models, also affects 
some upgrade cards, etc. The simple thing if you have a large HD is 
create that first partition for X and not worry about whether your 
particular machine is affected. I have never heard of any drawback to 
having a sub 8 gb partition, for boot purposes.
