I'm fairly sure they fixed that bug in 10.2, Beige G3 owners have 
reported it works fine now without anything on the on-board video. I 
presume (perhaps dangerously!) that it applies to other Old World 
machines too. If it does require something attached to the internal 
video then a MAc to VGA adapter is enough to fool a Mac and is cheaper 
and less obstructive than third monitor :).
