This was posted on the [supermacs] list, but didn't receive many
responses. I am posting it here in the hopes that it will get more of a
response, as it is fairly Mac OS X specific.
--preamble--

Greetings,

I currently have a J700 with the following configuration:

Sonnet G3/400 CPU
2x SCSI hard drives (one drive with Mac OS 9, the other with Mac OS X)
1x SCSI CD-ROM
4x 128 meg FPM DIMMs
1x ATI Rage Orion PCI video card

Thanks to a helpful list member, I will soon have an S900
case/motherboard. I plan on taking all of the components listed above from
my J700 and transferring them into the S900, in order to use it as a base
for more versatile future expansion.

I would also like to perform a few other upgrades while I'm doing this,
and I wanted to get your input as to how well this plan might work:

1) Add three more PCI cards:
-- 2-port Belkin USB card
-- 3-port MacAlly Firewire card
-- ACARD ATA/66 IDE card

2) Add a big honkin' IDE hard drive and connect it to the ACARD

I am currently running Jaguar on the J700 with no problems, but what I
would like to do is reformat and reinstall everything so that Jaguar lives
on the new IDE drive, and OS 9 lives on the two SCSI hard drives.

Any sense as to whether this new configuration might present problems?
Suggestions on what slots to put the new cards in? Etc?

Thanks!

Peter
