1. I am using a Blue and White, not an old world Mac, therefore it has
no ZIF carrier card.
2. I fixed this by reverting the 64MB cards to the 1.19 ROM revision
using ATI's ROM updater utility.

SO, there is NO INCOMPATIBILITY with the 900 MHz ZIF and a 64MB flashed Radeon; it is simply a ROM revision issue with the CPU upgrade. The older ROM actually works better for me on the 64MB cards; I no longer have drawing artifacts in Safari or Mail.

I have seen a similar problem with the 64 MB cards (from Sapphire, haven't tried the PowerColor) in a Beige G3 with the stock G3/300 ZIF installed. It's weird. The start-up screen is okay, but when it gets a little bit into the Welcome to Mac screen and the progress bar creeps a little, then the screen goes to horizontal hash.

On my Radius IntelliColor Display/20e the display just comes out of sleep mode for a moment and then ducks back in. I thought my Viewsonic 6e worked okay with no problems, but yesterday I had a similar problem with it. Dropping back to OS 8.6 made the problem go away. Starting without extensions also solved the problem under OS 9.1 (with OpenGL 1.2.4 installed).

Another really odd solution was to put a VGA to Mac adapter on the R7000 card and then a Mac to VGA adapter on the VGA to Mac adapter. In both cases that solved the issue as well. The Mac to VGA adapter was an adjustable Uni-Macfly adapter with a bank of DIP switches.

Dropping back to the 1.19 ROM also solves the problem. So, odd and a little worrisome as I've been selling a few of these on Ebay and I thought it was only an issue with the Intellicolor monitor which is pretty rare. I really hope they don't come back...
