Also, I understand that if the boot volume is small, encoding and burning will not work (assuming you could get iDVD to work) b/c the boot volume may run out of space. Anyone have a solution for that?

use an IDE Controller what emulates a SCSI drive (wich has not the 8 gig issue) - u will also benefit from the better bandwith
