And yes, I have taken a look at xlr8.com's page. Thanks for the recommendation.
From the looks of it, it doesn't look very promising. I'll keep reading them as I haven't read all the pertinent ones yet. Thanks everyone.
Just curious by the way: Has anyone successfully moved their users folders to a different partition and yet kept the protection that OS X gives to your folders and the other user's folders? For example, does it still keep you out of other users (a feature I'd like to keep) or is that something you have to give up?
Very close to getting the G4 800 upgrade for my oldbeige!
By the way, if I take out the DVD drive that came in a G4 (grey and white), one of the earliest superdrives, and put it in my beige g3, it should work right? Also, if I do that, and that takes up the place of my super fast CD Re-Writer (52X 32X 52X), could I still keep that writer in the sysem but house it outside the box. I know that might look messy but if I don't care about that, and I have an available place on the motherboard to connect the ribbon caple and power it, it should work right? Might that also help to alleviate heat issues? And by the way, has anyone ever tried powering internal devices externally through some adapter so that the computer does not "run out juice"?
Is that crazy?
Went to the Apple store. I'm torn: To stay in budget, I can either get the g4 upgrade or the splendid iPod or iPod mini. ouch.
Will stop rambling now.

Also, I understand that if the boot volume is small, encoding and burning will not work (assuming you could get iDVD to work) b/c the boot volume may run out of space. Anyone have a solution for that?
use an IDE Controller what emulates a SCSI drive (wich has not the 8 gig issue) - u will also benefit from the better bandwith
