Does anyone know how to uninstall Sonnet's X Tune-up software?
By the way, it's not the G4 version that's compatible with BW macs so I won't have the option of moving everything to that machine. The fan noise is not too bad. I hope the plumbing won't be a problem in there. I'm sure I've got cables that are touching the heat sink and blocking part of the fans. It's a very precise fit space-wise in this desktop. I wish it didn't cost so much so more folks with a beige could get their hands on it. As it is, I don't think I would have been willing to spend what they're charging for it. But I got it from a friend who was too frustrated with trying to run OS X in his beige tower, so he got a used G4 and he sold me his upgrade if I helped him install OS X in his G4 b/c he couldn't get the machine to recognize his hard drive. He made the offer literally minutes before I was going to order the 800 mhz version.

Now I'm going to wait for the iPod to come down $50.00 and I'll be able to get one of those suckers. I wanted the white 15 iPod, but I want to be able to run with it and I've been told by some people that it's not suitable for running. Others tell me it's been great for running. I wonder if it depends on the pace of your run. So anyway, now I may be forced to go with the mini since it's definitely supposed to be able to handle running. Enough babble. Thanks again everyone.
Next step: Get more RAM, anther hard drive, and a DVD burner.

I have done that and I did notice a difference, so I'm wondering if it's now done?
Also, since I am using a flashed Radeon 7000, I can't let the computer go to sleep. Does this mean it's a bad idea to leave it on overnight b/c of CPU heat and electricity costs, or is there a way for the CPU to "sleep" without affecting the video card? Does it do it automatically if it doesn't detect activity?
Ironically, it now takes longer to boot up: with G3 300: 2:02, with G4 1Ghz: 2:36. The screen stays black and displays no verbose text for a whole 1.5 minutes whereas before, it began this display within 15 seconds of turning on the computer. Will be submitting a report to xlr8yourmac.com's database, but I wanted to be sure I've got this thing running as well as it's going to run. Would just like to confirm it.
If you ask Sonnet support, they have an updated X tuneup (1.2.8 IIRC) that does support Panther. I use PowerLogix's CPU Directory and the speed and size of my caches are reported correctly in profiler and on the 'About the Mac' screen.
