I'd never run any restriction to "one session per user" except in the
Microsoft world. That's why I see that as copying Microsoft. Which is the
point I'm getting at... not that it's a big problem or a little problem, but
that it's a very Microsoft style approach to the thing.

My impression is that it was less a copy MS thing and more a now how do we get this in thing. There was a ton that didn't get done at the ground floor, after trying to make something go for over ten years and half of that on NeXT inclusion, sorta got to a scheduling issue.

Blanket solutions generally suck.

Indeed, that's why I'm arguing for safe design that *allows* a careful user to remain safe, rather than one that forces you to depend on the OS vendor not leaving any holes.

Yes, I agree with that. Now the question is, once you get a vendor who is providing that, as Apple has for the most part although not perfectly by any means, how do you want the vendor to deal with users who are not always careful. MS wants more control over patching even though MS's patching has often opened old holes that had been fixed. In the Windows world patching sometimes causes more problems than it solves, and MS wants to force everyone to patch more blaming viruses and worms on users not applying patches. That is the other extreme ... middle ground, so important, so hard to find. How to guide and yet not restrict. Sorta like parenting.
