Here's four easy patches that will fix this and prevent any further attacks along these lines.
* Turn off automatic unpacking of archives in Safari. * Stop using Finder as the helper application for FTP. * Turn off automatic mounting of disk images in Safari and Stuffit Expander. * Turn off automatic launching of installers in Safari and Stuffit Expander.
Peter,
Stuffit is easy to "correct" but where are the Safari options apart from, unchecking "Open safe files after downloading"? And for that matter helper application prefs?
This is one thing (of many) that I do not like about Safari in that there are minimal configuration options and even with things like Safari Expander don't give you the "expert" control we all would like or are used to. Yes I do use it for 99% of web work and ie for the other 1%
One of the posts re the Virii issue quite rightly pointed to the less intuitive nature of OS X I would agree that things (eg Folder views) are often not how you left them as they were under OS9 and earlier. My explanation of X often revolves around treat it like a windows box (XP) and it will start to make sense. Why to I hear another flurry of opinions......discussion....
