You are actually claiming that Mac OS Platinum and Aqua had to play "catchup" to MS using IE as their desktop browser?
Forget all the problems and insecurities that have already been brought up. IE sucks as a desktop interface, its not easily customizable, it was never designed for that task, it is cluttered, it had a long history of instability, it was ruled an example of illegal monopolistic behavior, its counter intuitive, and oh back to the security issues, since it is embedded, just using a different browser does not fix your security issues because once you have a file on your local PC you are now using IE to manipulate it ... oh back to being insecure.

Yeah, let's lynch them about it. Integrating IE into the desktop was a great
idea, and it took Apple until 10.3 to come up with a comparable interface.
Just use a different browser for surfing and it isn't an issue and IE is
essentially just Windows Explorer. It works great that way.
