I've long had a theory that in absolute terms we are not achieving much extra in work output with our new machines and OS's. than we were back in the days of the fx and ci's running system 6.0.8.

Before you all shoot me down let me qualify, I work in the graphic arts industry (approx 20 years - first Mac a FAT Mac - or Mac 512 for those that don't remember) and whilst it is true we ARE dealing with much much larger files and usually full colour, etc, etc the actual amount of product that ends up on the press is about the same. It' not unusual for me to see postscript dumps of over 1 gig for what are seemingly simple jobs.

Unfortunately peoples expectations are just that - more colour, bigger files (driven by stupid people with too much grunt, too much RAM and way too much HD capacity).

Worse still people are not being as particular with there work and the wastage of film, plates etc is significantly higher.

And this is just my industry, OK off my soap box now, just keep vision of what this is all about...........

BUT gee I do like being able to rip a DVD, whilst listening to music, checking email, browsing the web, and, and, and all at the same time with no significant slowdown. Oh and I still love my Newt 2K
