According to Apple's rules, you are fully supported.
The simple rule they give is "built-in FireWire". In desktop Macs, that should cover everything from a Blue&White G3 onwards (yosemite), including the PCI-G4 variant (yikes) launched at the same time as Sawtooth.
I see that Apple have now updated the list of supported hardware to include the Pismo PowerBook G3. Phew! (says a relieved Pismo owner).
This means that the guessing game for Ryan is to try to work out what it is about built-in FireWire that makes it a distinctive architecture. It presumably isn't NewWorld ROMs, since those are found in earlier model PowerBooks and early model iMacs. AFAIR NewWorld = built-in USB. It could of course be that there's no solid architectural reason why Apple want to cut off at FireWire, but it's simply an easy thing for the installer to test for; and it's all part of Apple's cunning marketing strategy to roll us onto new kit about every five years.
So we of the Luddites' co-operative face the new challenge (standing firm behind our leader, Brother Rempel) of breaking the imposed rules of built-in obsolescence yet another time.
At the moment Apple are being helpful by supporting three classes of processor (G3, G4 and G5), although XPostFacto shows that the earlier 603 and 604 cpus can still be made to work. We can speculate what the next architectural break-point will be, post-Tiger. Can't be PCI alone, since that's still at the heart of most of the supported machines. Difficult to see that it can be G3 alone, since that would prematurely cut-off loads of early iBooks and iMacs, and upset the installed user base something evil. My guess would be a built-in AGP bus. I presume that the installer can test for that, and even my humble 2001/2 iBook 700 (16M VRAM) has an AGP bus hidden inside it. But since the system will still have to support PCI graphics - for those folk who run multiple heads - I would guess that XPostFacto will still be able to patch round that one.
So, chances are, your Sawtooth will be supported for the next round after Tiger, and even - given that it's a G4 - the round after that.

Will I experience issues on a Sawtooth, or am I fully supported?
