Personally I still think its a typo or laziness.
If they require FireWire then how is it that they don't require FW on old iMacs? So long as there are contradictions on the page I am going to assume that the general written requirements are what are accurate and that the inclusion of some specific models and not others in the lower section is ad-hoc.
There are several instances were Apple is grouping a couple series of Macs into one, its just the iMacs are the only one that seems to be causing a contradiction, I believe they simply did a bad job labeling supported systems, it seems by far the most likely.

Thanks, I got lost looking for that page again...
Still doesn't say "iMac G3 Slot Loading (DV or later)", it just says "iMac G3 Slot Loading". And I believe they know, I'm one of the no doubt many people who asked them why the Pismo wasn't there and I mentioned that the first gen slot loaders didn't do Firewire.
It's been that way a bit too long to be just a typo, I think.
