Hi All,

Been reading this thread with interest

There are some points I think you have all missed with respect to yosomite, yikes or what ever g3/4 against a macmini and that IS expandability.

Sure you can stack external firewire/USB device off the mini, but isn't it nicer to bee able to stuff up to 3 extra PCI cards, depending on controller state up to 5 HDs, ZIP, and what ever optical drive you like inside and have more than 2 RAM slots to play with?

You've also got that migration path from one machine to the other - I know when I switched from G3'd 9600 running 10.2.8 to a REV A G5 1.8 I was forever going backwards and forwards between each machine to get stuff/tweaks/ etc to new machine. This is now sumewhat moot as tiger includes a "migration" app for much of this pain to go away.

People get way hung up on CPU cycles, bus speed and the like the reality is, unless your using it for commercial gain, in which case you'd probably have a late model Mac anyway, then go and have another coffee or beer or heaven forbid spend some time with the family whilst waiting for that photoshop gausian blur, or imovie render or even DVD burn......

Part of the fun is making it all work together, I had everything from frustration to shear satisfaction when making 9600 work with OSX, and G3 CPU, and IDE drives, and USB etc , etc.

For some people $150 today and then $150 next month is affordable but $300 today may not be.

My 2 cents worth anyway

Simon
