I loathe the DMCA, I think it's a horridly anti-consumer
corporate/fascist law, but it a large cudgel that can be used against
people hacking OS X to run on X86 systems, at least here in the US.
That, too.
I don't feel that it's all that great a hardship to buy apple
hardware, given that the alternative is crap OS'es on cheap hardware.
Until Jaguar "crap OSes on cheap hardware" was all you got.
And if Apple doesn't straighten up and fly right, we could end up there
again.
I'm less happy with Panther than Jaguar in some ways, and I'm still
holding off on cutting over to Tiger. If Apple's copy protection is
good enough I may end up joining the folks running Linux on their Macs,
because I will never depend on an an OS with boobytraps in the kernel.
I'll take the crap OS that leaves me in charge of my computer, thanks.
