I'm less happy with Panther than Jaguar in some ways, and I'm still holding off on cutting over to Tiger.

I'd hold out as long as possible too - only reason I am staying with Tiger is spotlight and mail2. A Rev A G5 1.8 with 2 GIG RAM and 2x 160GB HDs should be enough room to do what the OS needs but alas after several days it seems a restart is in order to get maximum speed back again. Applications mysteriously seem to loose functionality and recover after same restart as well.

It's not limited to my G5, my wife's iBook 1.2 with 768 RAM also suffers same fate as does buddies PowerBook 15inch 1.67 1Gig (Current revision) - don't know why, perhaps it has something to do with all these machines being put to sleep all the time. Any one got some ideas - take it offline direct if you'd like.

Sorry this is a little off topic but relevant given OS bashing happening. Given HW listed above you might all wonder why I am here - previous and recently pensioned off machine was 9600(non mach5) with G3/300 and Jaguar, amongst other non Apple sanctions mods!

Why it frustrates me - as others have pointed out each revision of OSX became better, but most importantly faster (most noticable when 9600 was my main machine - once Jaguar is running it's actually quite usable) - strikes me Apple pushed Tiger out the door to take some heat off the hardware issues (speed - well at least perceived speed problems). I reserve judgment on the "increase" in performance that we will see with Intel Macs due eminently. 15inch 1.67 PB with 7200 RPM 100GB HD seems pretty decent for a laptop to me particularly one that is around an inch thick and still has all the connections and optical drive as well.....
