Howdy,
The real reason Macs have never taken off is software.
Heh, heh....Except that they've been 'not taking off' for 22 years! The model for the creation of Macintosh computers at Apple was never about competing with the IBM PC - M$ market, but to create new markets.
Apple remains one of the most successful companies in the world at doing just that. Witness first the advent of iMacs, then the iPod phenomenon. And they continue to show more profits, have more return on the invested dollar, than the most popular mfr's of PC-compatible machines.
For a number of reasons, I like the fact that my Mac doesn't run PC software. IMO, most of it is junk I don't need anyway. I _do_ like the idea that my Mac does all I want and more, has never had a virus, and doesn't crash. I hope it remains that way, regardless of what processor it uses.
