I went to the University of Utah, and can highly recommend their
computer science program. To me, the most important things I learned
there weren't details about Language X or Framework Y, but the core
concepts and principles that apply across disciplines and regardless
of the specifics of what tools you're using.

As for whether or not you should get a bachelors degree, it depends
partly on what you want to do in the future. Having it will make it
easier to advance in your career, and get paid more than if you didn't
have it generally, and you'll be a lot better at what you do that you
probably otherwise would have been.

In general, it feels a lot like getting a BS degree now is a lot like
getting a high school diploma was 50ish years ago, or before finishing
high school became compulsory. The kinds of things that you couldn't
do without a HS diploma are now becoming the things you can't do
easily with a AS[/AA] or BS[/BA] degree. Similarly, having a BS back
then is probably more comparable to having a master's degree now, with
the bar being raised across the board. If you want to stand out from
other people you're competing with for jobs and career opportunities,
having more education is a great way to do it, especially when you can
leverage that education into actually performing better at your job.
