Dear Magnolia management In reaction to reading this, I started a rant-reply, but then stuck to the rules of netiquette and didn't hit the send button. I guess I first have to ask:
What is the goal you are hoping to reach by this business tactic? Because, now matter from what angle I look at it, I don't see who might profit from not releasing the already completed updates to CE users. It hurts Magnolia and it it kills our business. Here's why: 1. Making the releases available for CE users does not cost you anything at all. The work has been done for the EE customers anyways! So by not releasing it to CE customers, Magnolia does not save a single penny. 2. The broader the user base is, the better the quality of Magnolia will be and the more companies will decide for Magnolia. 3. The broader the user + customer base, the more integrators like us will investing in Magnolia. 4. Constantly cutting of the support for no reason is not the sign you want to send out to your prospective customers and integrators. 5. By cutting off CE users from updates you will not sell one additional EE license. Magnolia has done so much right in the last 10 years. So I can only assume that whoever has taken this decision had a plan. But that plan is very obscure to me – and I'm not the only one! -will On 12.03.2014, at 13:22, "Christian Sprecher (via Magnolia Forums)" <> wrote: > Hi all > > According to the > releases > page, 4.5.17 is the current version for Magnolia 4.5.x, and it is > recommended to upgrade to this versions.
