Short answer - No. I have using desktop computers since the Apple II. Sharing files between different users, computers, and programs has always been necessary. The only difference now is the existence of open formats along with a variety of proprietary and semi-proprietary formats. If you want people to use your program you must support the common file types in use for the type of program regardless of the openness of the type.
