OK - I'm using MySQL 5.1.55 and phpMyAdmin 3.5.4. Everything is on
'localhost' with just me as the user.
I've just checked in PCC and both httpd and MySQL are set to Start on
Boot and are running.
I found my config.inc.php file (I do not seem to have a
config.sample.inc.php file that I can rename!!) and this is what it
contains ...

I added in the following two lines ..
/$cfg['Servers'][$i]['root'] = 'root';//
//$cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'xxxxx';/
I then tried again to log in via phpMyAdmin. The screen does start OK
and I enter 'root' as the user and 'xxxxx' as the Password but still get
the same error (1045)!!
I've re-read all the links you sent me but other than renaming the
sample file (which I don't have) I can see no other suggestion.
